Wayne Dyer Quotes & Philosophy – You Might Not See It Even if You Believe It

Some of you may have heard this name before as a lot of people are listening to the latest audios and reading the latest books produced by this author. The reason he is up for philosophical discussion is because he’s actually having a regressive impact on society today mainly because people are only studying his latest works, whereby the author is in a final transient phase of his life, while ignoring his early works and his journey as an entirety.

[toc]

You’ll hear a lot of his later works quoted and named and a lot of people attempting to follow his most recent philosophies. The problem that is arising is people are adapting to a higher transient level of life than they have earned. This is causing complacency and irresponsibility, oftentimes, leaving a person to believe they have little control over their lives and that whatever happens…just happens.

Positive Thinking without Positive Action

So people have started to adopt the positive spin of thinking and being peaceful without realizing that Dr Dyer’s life journey is what got him to the transient point he is today and unless you understand and traverse a similar path to him, you are simply jumping ahead of stages in life without taking the bumps and bruises that this guru took. Of which, from his own words, was a necessity in getting to him where he has gone today. Most people didn’t go through the stages that would allow them to adopt later philosophies and get similar results.

Basically they end up feeling better about how poor their lives actually are. It’s like ignoring the reality of things where Wayne Dyer, going through all the stages, has made his own reality through a lot of hard work and effort. He is essentially sitting on an empire that he himself built through hard work and dedication; not complacency, law of attraction, and thought. The majority of his life revolved around the law of action, something that is oftentimes overlooked or downright excluded in his later works.

The Secret and It’s Success

Similar to “The Secret” and “Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill” a vital component is missing from this philosophy. One cannot simply think and grow rich or attract things to them if they are unable to act upon them, rather, the realistic approach would be, “Think, Take Action, and Grow Rich”. But not a lot of people want to believe the action step is necessary, this is also why people who buy one of these books that doesn’t talk about action in it, are prone to buy another one, and another one, and another one; further proving that attracting and thinking cannot by itself be the key. You actually have to get off your ass and do something about it when the time comes.

A person cannot simply adopt the later philosophies and duplicate any of his success, happiness or well-being, even though most walk around spouting off random quotes and pretending they really are miniature Jesus beings, the reality is they are downright miserable on the inside and empty. Even though some of these philosophies help people get through the day, they are oftentimes taken to the extremes while overlooking the reality of things.

His Life Story

In this discussion we will examine the components of Wayne Dyers life and the stages he went through so that readers can identify their current stage of life with one that Wayne went through instead of taking their current stage of life and maladapting it to Wayne Dyers recent philosophies which does more harm than good.

Readers must compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges.

Brief Background

A brief background on Dr Dyer will illustrate some of his difficulties of his life. Knowing we all have had difficulties it is unnecessary to share in his, instead, I will tell you about his career. He is from the Detroit area (now living in Maui). He started his career as a high school guidance counselor then a professor of counselor education at St. John’s University in New York City.

His lectures at St. John’s focused on positive thinking and motivational speaking techniques and attracted many students. Eventually a literary agent convinced him to put some of his theories to book. Which he did in his first book called “Your Erroneous Zones” published in 1976 at the age of 36.

Your Erroneous Zones

This is where his journey started and what most people don’t understand. Up until Age 36 he was a counselor working a regular job like everyone else. His book lacked initial sales and he wouldn’t settle for it. His calling came when he quit his job as a professor and hit the road determined to make his book a success oftentimes living out of the back of a station wagon.

He somehow acquired money to buy his first 10,000 books or so and took them to local book stores across the country while busting his ass to get interviews and to talk to anyone he could about his book. He would even call book stores ahead of time and ask them if they had his book in stock and then he’d show up later and deliver copies to them, posing as a potential customer on the phone.

Did anyone catch what I just said?

He quit his job as a professor, bought 10,000 copies of his book or so from the publisher, lived out of the back of a station wagon, and drove across the country promoting them.

Have any of you ever gone to that extreme or will you go to that extreme to make sure your book is a success. Keep in mind, he quit a nice paying consistent job where he almost had tenure to do this.

Philosophies Change As You Progress Through Life

So you see, his earlier philosophies are not at all like his later ones. He had ambition, ego, drive, passion, and inspiration. He did not simply sit on top of a throne in Maui thinking about things and having them happen to him. He busted his ass and made this happen all by himself and it worked. Your Erroneous Zones eventually took off spending 64 weeks on the New York Times best seller list. It is one of the top selling books of all-time with an estimated 35 million copies sold.

At age 36, this guru is busting his ass and not taking no for an answer. And if you’re at this stage of your life, which most of you who read his stuff are, the key is to go bust your ass for something that inspires you. Not to sit around and take things as they come, that is reserved for a later peaceful stage when you’re financially independent and no longer have anything to do but think peacefully. He didn’t magically become successful, rich, happy, or wealthy by thinking it. He took serious action for a long period of time and never gave up.

He continued to write books, give talks, make audios, and do anything and everything he could. He resisted the spiritual tag for 14 years and it wasn’t until 1990 when he wrote “Real Magic” that he actually began talking about higher consciousness which you now see in all his books and it gets more spiritual as he goes on. You can study his works for the last 36 years and see exactly the path he’s taken and what stages of his life he was in at that time.

Those first 14 years are what made him rich and successful giving him the ability to start to adopt the higher consciousness, you would too if you were already set in life. I’m not going to sit here and tell you he wouldn’t have made it to that part of his journey without the success, I think eventually everyone makes it to a spiritual higher consciousness but most don’t get there until they are on their death bed. One thing I will say for certain is that the results are in and you can see where he is today and how he got there.

I believe if you adopt his later philosophies right now and leave out action and ambition, virtually killing your drive, you will be exactly like Wayne Dyer minus the success, or in other words you’ll just be content. I could say you’d be content with nothing or your shitty life, but the teachings of Wayne don’t allow such negative talk. So you’ll be content with your life and how it is and he’ll be content with his life and how it is; it’s just that in his life and how it is he lives in Maui and has so much money he doesn’t even keep any of the money he makes anymore, he just gives it all away.

Quotes and Examination

When you start to be content with how things are and stop growing, you’re nearing the end of your life and becoming dead on the inside just going through the motions of it all. You need to always be inspired and growing. Having said that let’s examine some of his quotes.

“Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into.”

So 36 year old Wayne Dyer and 72 year old Wayne Dyer agree to this don’t get me wrong. But the 36 year old Wayne Dyer defined abundance as success, best sellers, and money and he sure did tune into it. The 72 year old Wayne Dyer defines abundance on a spiritual plane where you think in terms of unlimited supply because our creator and source is unlimited. So whatever you want, you can have it, because there’s abundance everywhere for those spiritual beings.

“Anything you really want, you can attain, if you really go after it.”

See the key here? You can have it but you have to pursue it and go after it. There’s nothing in this quote about it coming right to you.

“Go for it now. The future is promised to no one.”

“How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours.”

“If you are living out of a sense of obligation you are a slave.”

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

How true. Once Wayne switched into spiritual consciousness he was looking at the same things differently and his entire line up of works changed with it.

“It makes no sense to worry about things you have no control over because there’s nothing you can do about them, and why worry about things you do control? The activity of worrying keeps you immobilized.”

“It’s never crowded along the extra mile.”

“Judgments prevent us from seeing the good that lies beyond appearances.”

“Miracles come in moments. Be ready and willing.”

“Our intention creates our reality.”

“Our lives are a sum total of the choices we have made.”

“Successful people make money. It’s not that people who make money become successful, but that successful people attract money. They bring success to what they do.”

“The last suit that you wear, you don’t need any pockets.”

“There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way.”

“What comes out of you when you are squeezed is what is inside of you.”

“When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It’s to enjoy each step along the way.”

“You can never get enough of what you don’t want.”

“You’ll see it when you believe it.”

Jungs 4 Life Stages

So you’ll see the differences of his quotes just in this small segment over his progression through the stages of life. These 4 stages are explained in below from a Wayne Dyer interview:

Athlete

Jung said there are four archetypes adults go through, and these archetypes are reflected in the development of my work. The first archetype is the archetype of the athlete, reflecting the time in our adult life when our primary emphasis is on our body—what it looks like, how beautiful it is, how strong it is, and so on. We identify ourselves with our body. We are our body.

Warrior

Growing adults next move to what Jung called the archetype of the warrior. We take our physical bodies out there to do what warriors do. What do warriors do? They are in competition with everyone else. They measure their success and their value on the basis of who they are better than, how much they get, and so on. So, this is the time in your adult life when your primary emphasis is on goal setting, on getting someplace else, and on defeating other people.

Statesman

If you still are growing, you go through the archetype of the statesman or stateswoman. You stop asking, “What are my quotas?” and stop saying, “What is in it for me?” and, “How much can I get?” You begin to say, “What are your quotas?” and, “How may I serve?” Providing for others becomes much more important in your life than what you can get for yourself.

Spirit

Finally, if you still are growing, you reach the highest archetype, the archetype of the spirit. This is the time when you finally realize what Jesus meant when he said, “You are in this world, but you are not of this world.” You are not here as a human being having a spiritual experience, but the reverse is true: All of us here are spiritual beings having a human experience.

Identify the phase you’re in and start matching that phase to the phases Wayne Dyer was in when he wrote his books. You’ll find what you need in his writings if you’ll only match your vibrational frequency to his. Most of you who pick up his books are not in the 3rd and 4th stage, so when you read his books written in the 3rd and 4th stages, you’re missing a lot.

Put Thoughts into Action

Don’t be happy with a job you don’t like, go out and improve yourself and get a better one. Don’t think it’s okay to settle for less than you want on anything. Whether it’s family, success, recognition, fame, relationships, or fortune; go out and get that shit today.

When you enter stage 3 and 4 you’ll no longer need to read Wayne Dyer for guidance, you’ll read him as you would read a peer paper or colleague. But first and foremost, complete these stages of life. There are no warp whistles in life like there are in Mario Brothers 3 where you can skip to the last level. There are no cheat codes you can use. There are pains everyone has to endure as part of life, so endure them, conquer them, but for the love of God, go through them.

Don’t Be So Accepting

“When you become content, those around you who aren’t, destroy life for everyone else.”

When you stop caring or start ignoring the world around you, you end up with all kinds of things going on. So while it is great to say what you resist persists, if you don’t stand for something and push for it; you could end up with large governments controlling everything as just one example. If you’re just going to sit or stand there, people will take advantage of you, it’s almost human nature if you study human history. So don’t resist things if you believe what you resist persists, but instead, stand for something and make it happen. Whether it’s a big government level, a family level, or just some struggle within yourself. If you become content with being overweight, you’ll no longer be for being healthy and fit.
