Some people live weekend to weekend and paycheck to paycheck wishing they had more time off. They can’t wait till Friday and dread Monday. They plan their vacations way in advance and consider their job just a job. They talk about their dreams, hopes, and future without the intention of taking the steps necessary to make them a reality.
Most of them have bad habits such as drinking which they do with their friends and by themselves, regardless of what the activity is. They bowl to drink, they play baseball to drink, they go to a show to drink, and they drink to drink. This is their release from life, it’s how they get away.
Drinking may not be your thing but you probably have some other habit in your life that you use to escape reality. It could be video games, it could be excessive masturbation, it could be excessive sleeping, or it could be television. You probably have something in your life that has the sole purpose of making you forget or feel better about your shitty life.
My first question for you is: “Who’s responsible for the way things are in your life right now?”
If you answered that question with anything other than “yourself” then you literally have no hope. You are saying that you aren’t in control of your own life which is far from the truth. There’s always going to be a circumstance, there’s always going to be negative people, there’s always going to be taxes, there’s always going to be rules, and there’s always something that’s going to get in your way to stop you from doing what you need to do.
You are not alone.
Successful happy people had those same barriers, a lot of them had worse than you could ever dream to have. But somehow with the odds stacked against them they made it out of the hole and into a the life they wanted.
What’s the difference between you and them?
The difference is they answered “yourself” to the question above and took control of their lives.
So now that you know you are responsible for where you are, my next question is: “Why do you do it to yourself?”
Why aren’t you trying to make the life you’ve always wanted? Don’t know what steps to take?
If you don’t know what to do to fix your life, there are people that can help. You can even use google, find forums, and connect with other people in your situation and figure out how they got out. There are so many free resources out there, that “not knowing” is not a valid excuse. What you’re really saying is you don’t care enough to even attempt to figure it out.
Fortunately, most of you already know what steps you need to take to better your life. So why aren’t you taking them?
What I am telling you to do is to set up a life that you don’t have to run from. Set Up a life that doesn’t involve looking forward to Friday and dreading Mondays. Set Up a life that doesn’t involve planning your next vacation. Set Up a life that you don’t have to escape from.
Face it, if you keep doing the same things, you’re going to get the same results. The definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again and expecting a different outcome.
You have to change what you’re doing. You have to change the way you think about things.
To do this you first have to get serious with yourself. Grab a piece of paper or a computer and describe how you want your life to be. Then go through where you’re at and figure out what you need to do to get there.
Want to make a million dollars a year? You can do it, but what you need to do is figure out what job pays a million dollars a year. Find one that interests you then draw out the plan to get there. It may involve school, it may involve starting your own business, or it may involve moving. Whatever it is you have to do, you can do it. Other people have done it. There are people making over a million dollars right now, figure out what they do. If you really want it you’ll get it done.
This is the same for relationships, living conditions, and everything else in your life. If you want something, figure out what you want, figure out where you’re at, and then draw a map to get there. I guarantee you that most of you can figure out what you need to do to reach your goals.
If you want to run a 5k race, you probably know that you need to work out. If you don’t know what workouts to do, guess what, lots of people run races and lots of people train athletes, ask someone.
If you want to get a promotion or a better job, ask your boss what you need to do. If it’s not possible there, then consider switching jobs or pursuing a course of action to change careers. It might involve certifications, schooling, applications, resume updating, or anything in between but I guarantee you that you can figure that part out.
Want to be married and have children but your current relationships aren’t working? Figure out what type of person you want to marry and then figure out what type of hobbies they’d have and where they’d hang out and look in those areas. If you’re on your 20th relationship this year and all of the people you’ve dated you met at the bar, consider that maybe the bar isn’t a good place to look to find your perfect match to marry and raise a family with.
This shit is so simple and you can figure it out I’m positive.
Stop with the excuses, take responsibility for where you’re at, set some goals, and make a plan of action to achieve those goals. Or…continue to do what you’re doing now and you’ll still be where you are in 10 years.
Remember, there’s never a right time or a right place, so stop waiting around for it. It never comes or happens, you have to make it happen. Make the time, make the place, and make the life you want.
Set Up a life that you don’t have to run from because someday running will no longer be an option.
