Confusing Relation”shits”

“Do you think she’ll like it?”

“I think it’s beautiful. It’s one of the highest quality diamonds we have in the store. The design is unique, – I guarantee you won’t find anything like it again.”

He sat there and gazed at the light as it glimmered off the newly set diamond. It was unlike anything he had ever seen before. The brightest star on a clear dark night couldn’t match it.

“How much did you say this was again?”

Let me check on that for you.

The woman went to the computer to type in the serial number.

“The MSRP of that ring is $1800 and the diamond is…let me see…the diamond is $4700 so the total MSRP would be…”

She grabbed a calculator and typed in a few numbers.

“The total MSRP would be $6500, but we can sell it to you for $5300 today.”

“You said I get the same price I paid for the last ring right? So $3000 off of that?

“Yes, that’s correct, that’s our return customer policy, if you upgrade you get the price you paid for jewelry you bought here and bring back to us in good condition.”

“Okay so what would be my out the door cost then to take this home?”

“You’d be looking at $2300 plus tax…total comes to about $2438.”

“Okay that sounds good, can it be ready by Valentine’s day?”

“Yes!”

He glanced up at the clock.

“Crap.”

It was passed 5pm, he was going to be running late to pick up his daughter.

“I’ve got to go, just have that ready for me, okay?”

“Sure thing.”

He walked outside the jewelry store. That was when it occurred to him that the grey minivan sitting outside was his. He had half expected to see his black BMW waiting for him, reassuring him, that everything was going great, but he remembered that the repo man took it from him. Now it was just a relic of his history, one more thing he had worked hard to get that was taken from him.

He knew he probably shouldn’t be shopping for rings either, but this was a special occasion. Where the money would come from he had no idea but he would figure it out, he always did.
